Interviewing Skills To Beat The Downturn

We continue to receive bad news about layoffs across multiple industries all
over the country, including here in the Boston area. In these difficult
times, we will continue to look for ways to support alumni affected by the
economic downturn.

The Professional Development Committee brings you an Interviewing Skills
seminar and workshop hosted by Stephen Balzac '85, who has experience in
coaching people succeed at job interviews.

Businesses don't hire a collection of skills. They hire people who can help
the business accomplish its goals. Businesses are looking for people who can
bring value to the enterprise. Focusing on your skills
make you a commodity; focusing on the value you bring makes you unique.

Mr. Balzac's talk will focus on how to use the job interview to establish
your value in the eyes of the company. At the session, Mr. Balzac will
discuss identifying your value pitch, getting in front of the right people,
how to manage the interview, and how to follow up. There will also be a
discussion on how to apply these techniques as a preventative measure to
keep from losing your job. The seminar is directed at those who are
currently job hunting, those who are anticipating it as a part of their
future, and those upon whom job hunting has abruptly been thrust. The event
will also be a great place to meet other people who are similarly situated.
The evening will include a mixture of lecture, discussion, and role-plays.
Participants will leave with a set of tools they can immediately apply to
process of obtaining their next job.
